Coaching Staff

The Club currently has 6 qualified coaches providing all coaching activities to all members of our playing staff from the youngest to the oldest.

Rachel Hopkins

Rachel is a fully qualified coach having obtained an ECB Level 3 Certificate in Coaching Young People and Adults in 2019, is DBS checked and has a Safeguarding Young Cricketers certificate.

Rachel is currently in her 5th year of working for Durham Cricket as a Women’s and Girls Cricket Development Officer. Since moving up to the sunny North East in 2017, Rachel is greatly appreciative of the backing of Philadelphia CCC after approaching the Club about setting up a women’s section. Philadelphia ladies have now been crowned champions of the Durham Women’s T20 League for 3 consecutive seasons.

Unfortunately Rachel hasn’t been able to feature in the senior teams at the Club as much as she’d like, due to playing commitments with the Northern Diamonds and is looking forward to helping the Club grow and sustain the women’s section for the foreseeable future.

Shaun Smith

Shaun is a fully qualified coach having obtained an ECB Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Young People and Adults, is DBS checked and has a Safeguarding Young Cricketers certificate.

Shaun has been 1st XI captain since 2012 and manages the Under 11s team.

Shaun has represented and captained the Club at all junior levels before going on to play 2nd XI and then 1st XI cricket. He represented Durham County at junior level from U13s through to U19s.

He also represented the North of England at U16 level.

Shaun left the Club to join Hylton CC before going on to play for Murton CC and Silksworth CC before spending 2 seasons as professional at Bill Quay CC.

In 2008 Shaun joined Northumbria Police and has played for the joint Northumbria and Durham Police team and has been their captain for the last 2 seasons. The team has won the National Knockout competition 3 times in the last 4 seasons.

Shaun was also selected as vice captain of the British Police team in 2021.

Tom Raine

Tom joined the Club at the age of 12 and broke into the 1st team at 15.

Apart from brief spells at Murton and Castle Eden, Tom has played all of his career at the Club.

Tom is a fully qualified coach having obtained an ECB Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Young People and Adults, is DBS checked and has a Safeguarding Young Cricketers certificate.

Tom currently manages the Under 18s team and is the Lead Activator for the Club's popular All Stars programme.

Adam McGuire

Adam joined the Club in 2002 and represented the County until the age of 18 and played in various representative league sides at various age groups.

Adam has played 1st team cricket since age 14/15 and has been at the Club for over 17 years apart from a brief 2 year spell elsewhere.

Adam is a fully qualified coach having obtained an ECB Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Young People and Adults and is DBS checked and has a Safeguarding Young Cricketers certificate.

Stephen Robinson

Stephen has played the majority of his career at the Club representing the Club at all levels including U13 / U15 / U18 / 3rd XI / 2nd XI and 1st XI. He also played for Leadgate CC for 5 years.

Stephen opened the bowling for Phili 1st XI for 15 years and won the 1st XI league bowling averages 2 years in a row from 2012 to 2013,

Stephen is the Club's longest serving coach and has completed over 7 years coaching.

Stephen is a fully qualified coach having obtained an ECB Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Young People and Adults and is DBS checked and has a Safeguarding Young Cricketers certificate.

Stephen currently manages the Under 13s, U14s and U15s teams.

Luke Robinson

Luke is a fully qualified coach having obtained an ECB Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Young People and Adults, is DBS checked and has a Safeguarding Young Cricketers certificate.

Luke has played all of his career at the Club representing the Club at all levels from U11 upwards and is now a member of the current 1st XI.

Luke's achievements include taking 6 wickets in one over, all bowled, for the U13s in a cup tie against Langley Park CC and also winning the Hetton Lyons Sunday League bowling averages at the age of 14.

Luke made his 1st XI debut at 15 and during that season took a hat trick against Durham City CC in a cup match and was also named Man of the Match in the Frank Lees Cup final against Horden CC,

Luke has represented Durham County at U11, U12, U13, U14 and is now a member of the Durham U18 squad.

Luke assists with the Club's All Stars programme and currently coaches the U13 and U15 teams.
